DIY – Upper Tension Cleaning

This Is a Simple Cleaning

If you want to clean out lint from your upper tension, using a tiny little cleaning brush like this can be all you need.

Make sure that you raise the presser foot, because this mechanically separates the tensions discs as well. Then, cleaning this becomes pretty simple.

Poke the brush in and scrub the left and the right side of the tension disc as much as you can. This should help remove lint buildup and may solve some tension problems you have encountered.

Lint buildup can cause loopy stitching and inconsistent tensions. Then, like a domino effect, the loopy stitching in turn can lead to broken needles, thread jamming below the needle plate, etc.

It only takes a few seconds, and if you do this every time you come to sew, you greatly shrink the chance of lint buildup leading to frustration.
