Most Asked Questions

Our store does not offer any alteration work or custom sewing. However, we do sell and service sewing machines and offer free machine training to our customers on machines bought from us. Alterations Plus is a local resource that specializes in alterations, and their phone number is (218) 444-5903.

We service a large variety of sewing machines from many different eras. We cannot typically service Berninas made after the year 2000, or modern Pfaff or Viking embroidery machines. We do not service Gammill long arm sewing machines, nor Consew machines, Tin Lizzies, APQS machines, Noltings, Graces, or any other long arm/industrial quilting machines that are not under the HandiQuilter umbrella. Otherwise, we absolutely service machines that we did not originally sell! Examples of this are: Singer, Necchi, Elna, Kenmore, Handi-Quilter, Juki home models, Brother, Babylock, Janome, etc. If you have questions about if your machine is servicable here, feel free to call us at 218-444-7727!

We can service all bagged vacuums. We also offer limited minor repairs on bagless uprights, including clearing clogs, cord replacements, and filter swaps. We don’t service robot vacuums, cordless stick-vacuums, or Dyson or Sharks of any variety. As with all repairs, the availability of parts vary and can determine what we can fix on a case by case basis.

We have been offering an annual kids sewing camp every summer for interested youths wanting to get into sewing! We currently do not offer structured beginner sewing classes for adults, but we do provide free individualized training for life to customers who buy a machine from us! We are also glad to answer basic questions over the phone and in person for everyone.

We are one of the few sewing machine service shops in the state that offers onsites. We offer on-site service but limited mostly to our own customers. Juki Industrial machines, Multi-needle Brother embroidery machines, and Handi-Quilter longarms. We travel as far as Bismark, ND, northern Iowa, and all over Minnesota.

We do offer quilting – the final stitching together of quilt top, batting, and backing fabric, but we do not offer to complete the binding. Our very talented Jan does most of our customer quilts; from edge to edge allover designs, to custom block designs. Individuals can provide their own batting and backing or purchase them here in store.

We are a licensed Janome, Brother, HandiQuilter, and industrial Juki dealer. These companies are cornerstones in the sewing machine industry and are known for their longevity, metal content, and ease of use. They do produce most of their own manufactured products, and often even build for other brands.

We occasionally have used machines for sale from various brands that have been traded in to us on a new machine purchase and inspected. We check every sewing machine and offer a 6 month guarantee with most of them on resale. We do not outright buy used machines; only when the customer is trading it in on a new machine. Our selection rotates constantly and can be the source of a great deal! Stop by and see what we have in store!
