We are so excited to bring this dynamic duo to Bemidji this year for a time of wonderful education and creativity!  If you are into quilting and would like to start exploring the world of longarm quilting, then this is the place to be!  Iris and Loretta are fabulous teachers and are so much fun to watch and learn from!  If you’ve ever wanted to go to HQ Academy, these are two of the gals who are your teachers!  Over the course of our two-day event, you will learn a ton of pro-tips to either get you started on your quilting journey or give you all sorts of ideas on how to expand your creativity with what you already know!  We have both beginners and experts alike and they have both loved this class!

This is not just a lecture class!  We are having the HQ Truck here, and there will be 12 machines all set up and waiting for you to practice and play on!  We also limit the class size so that there are only 2 people per machine, to give each one of you a nice amount of time working on the skills that they show you.  Plus! If you have already purchased an HQ machine from us, please email us for your coupon discount to save some money off the registration fee!

Don’t Wait!  Reserve your spot today!  Some years we have sold out LONG before this spring event, so you don’t want to miss this one!

We have (2) two-day events Either Tuesday and Wednesday, or Friday and Saturday.  The classes are exactly the same between the two times; they are just spread this way to try and fit each person’s schedule and to make the most of the room we have and the educators time here!  We will start at 9:00 AM and end at 4:30 PM each day.  Here is what the schedule looks like:

Day One:

Morning: Longarm Machine Quilting Basics

Afternoon:  Fast, Fun, and Fabulous Free-Motion Quilting

Day Two:

Morning:  Introduction to the Pro-Stitcher (Hands on)

Afternoon:  Hands on Ruler Essentials

Our Educators:

Iris Noitalay

Iris quilt journey started in 1992 ,when Iris’ sister Astrid came to visit while Iris and her family were living in Northern California. She asked if Iris could make her a quilt since Iris had experience in sewing. Making this quilt led Iris to yearn for more, she was hooked. Iris’ experience includes everything from; working at a local quilt shop in North Carolina, to owning her own longarm machine and business, and her line of digital quilting designs.

Iris started out with a non-computerized longarm but switched to a HQ Fusion® with Pro-Stitcher® shortly after. From that point on Iris started creating her own designs such as pantographs and digitized designs, they are currently available at Quiltable. These designs are what led Iris to multiple awards from Judges choice to Blue ribbons in longarm quilting.

Iris’ earned a degree in Advertising and Graphic Design, became a certified instructor in a digitizing software. Learning all aspects of quilting has been quite the journey for Iris, yet the biggest reward is witness the overwhelming join in a quilt recipients eyes.

Iris enjoys teaching quilters with all levels of experience, she believes that quilting should be a fun experience. If you are interested in becoming a longarmer Iris is able to teach everything about quilting especially longarm quilting, everything from the basics on “how to get started” with long arm quilting to “ruler work” to her favorite quilting technique “free-motion quilting”.

Loretta Morris

Loretta’s first experience with a sewing machine was in junior high school where she made a pair of powder blue corduroy overalls. Those overalls were loved so much by all of her friends that she ended up giving them to her, at the time, best friend Janey.

She didn’t touch a sewing machine for the next 10 years or so, until her mother-in-law gave her a sewing machine as a gift, and she thought, “What am I going to do with this?” So she did the only thing she thought she could do, she began making clothes for her children, and then she began making them for herself. She then ventured into rag doll making, selling those dolls at craft shows, and teaching at her local quilt shop. It was there that she laid her eyes on a quilt that she just had to make, so she talked the maker of that quilt into teaching a class, and so began her love of Quilts.

Loretta started doing her own quilting on a HQ Sweet Sixteen® and graduated to the Amara® with Pro-Stitcher® 5 years later. She has enjoyed teaching others the love of quilting ever since.

She loves art quilting as well as traditional quilting, and combining free motion, ruler work and Pro-Stitcher to create custom quilting.

Loretta has 4 grown children and 12 grandchildren.
