Kids Summer Sewing Camp

Do you have a young person that is interested in sewing, and you would like them to have a fun week on learning the basic skills needed to start them on their sewing journey?  Then this is the week you have been looking for!!

July 21-25, 2025

This is our twelfth year offering Kids Summer Sewing Camp and are excited to do it again after missing last year due to a lack of having a teacher!  But we are excited to have Lisa Westlund, a local school teacher teach this class for us this year!  I have been in her classroom watching her teach and she is a load of fun but also knows her stuff!  The targeted age group for this class is 10-16 years old.  If you have a child outside of that range, please contact our store and ask for Jay to have that considered.

What is Kids Sewing “Camp” like?

We have about 6-8 projects that the students work through during the week as they learn various skills with sewing!  Here are some of the main areas:

• Learning basic machine skills like threading, bobbin winding, selecting stitches, and more!
• How to follow a basic pattern
• Cutting safety, and the necessity of pinning
• How much fun sewing can be when you create your own products!

But most of all, we just have fun teaching them how to sew, and how much the community of sewing increases the joy in the process!  The machines we will be using this year are the Brother PS500.  Thanks to Brother and their willingness to help chip in with the cost of these machines, we are able to allow each student to take their machine home with them when they finish!!  It is our way of helping encourage young people to keep sewing when they get to keep using the same nice machine at home that they have used all week at the store!

Each day the students get to order their lunch from Raphael’s Bakery, and there are times when we walk to the park to burn off some energy, or to the ice cream shop for a change of scenery.

On Friday, we have a little graduation time where each student gets a little diploma and pictures taken with their projects and teachers.  That usually happens around 2:30-3:00 and then they are free to leave after that.  We encourage parents and any grandparents that wish to be here for that to arrive no later than 2:30 PM.
